Laboratory Technician
Job Description:
This program was developed jointly by Tulsa Community College and Tulsa Technology Center. The Chemical Laboratory Technology option prepares the student to perform a variety of physical and chemical analyses and related duties under the supervision of a chemist or laboratory technologist. The skills and abilities mastered are applicable to industrial, chemical, and environmental analytical laboratories. The student will participate in OSHA safety compliance, laboratory maintenance, manual and electronic instrumentation usage, preparation of reagents, advanced analytical techniques, and will become familiar with the basic structures and formulas of inorganic and organic chemistry. The Associate in Applied Science in Chemical Laboratory option provides the student the opportunity to develop additional skills in English, mathematics, social sciences and chemistry.

Job opportunities are expected to be excellent, because the number of job openings is expected to continue to exceed the number of job seekers. Employment of clinical laboratory workers is expected to grow faster than average for all occupations through the year 2014, as the volume of laboratory tests continues to increase with both population growth and the development of new types of tests.
