Program Description:This program is designed for persons interested in a career as a peace officer and for those employed as peace officers who wish to improve their knowledge and skills in specialized fields.

$14.26 per hour/$29,670 per year
Local Employment Outlook:
Employment of law enforcement personnel is expected to increase on the same average as other occupations through the next few years due to an increase in population and police protection needs. A more security-conscious society and growing concern in drug-related crimes should contribute to an increasing demand for police services. However, employment growth may be tempered somewhat by continuing budgetary constraints—resulting in the increased use of lower paid civilian police department employees in parking enforcement and various clerical, administrative, and technical support positions. In addition, private security firms may increasingly assume some routine police duties such as crowd surveillance at airports and other public places. Although turnover of police, detective, and special agent jobs are among the lowest of all occupations, the need to replace workers who retire, transfer to other occupations, or stop working for other reasons will be the source of most job openings.
